Hue Rain brand original wild silk (wild silkworm, yuzu silkworm, tussah silk) thread. It is a rare and valuable material obtained from the cocoons of wild silkworms that live outdoors. The fibers have a beautiful shiny prismatic structure, and as a Hue Rain brand original, the number of twists of the yarn is reduced to bring out the natural beauty to the maximum. Color variations are ecru, indigo, and silver gray.

Please select your thread size.

What is Wild Silk?

- Silkworms are grown in the wild, not domestically cultivated indoors. It is a wild silkworm species.
・Compared to domestic silk thread, it has excellent antibacterial, antioxidant, UV protection, strength, breathability, water absorption, water release, and heat retention properties.
・The fiber is thicker than domestic silk thread, and it is not straight but has fluctuations.
・Natural yellowish ecru color.
・Silk thread is characterized by the luster produced by the prism, but it is not as lustrous as domestic silkworms, and is calmer.
・It has the simplicity and warmth of hand-spinning, and has a crunchy feel that is a little similar to linen thread.
・The unevenness unique to natural fibers is attractive.
・It has both kindness and strength.

Features of Hue Rain wild silk yarn

・In order to preserve the unique fiber quality, the number of twists is reduced.
35/6 Amamo (approximately 157 denier)
-Although it is a thin thread, the fibers are strong, making it easy to maintain the shape of your work.
・The raw color is undyed.
・Indigo/silver gray chemical dye.
・Due to the dyeing process, the indigo/silver gray color is a little softer than unbleached.
・The skein has a natural fluctuation. In cone winding, tension is applied during the winding process, so the thread is straighter than in skein winding.

About use

・It can be used for a wide range of purposes, including knitting, embroidery, sewing machines, tatting lace, dyed fabrics, threaded mandalas, nanduti, textiles, etc.
- Cone rolls can be conveniently used for 2 or 3 rolls.
・The disadvantage of having a small number of twists is that the thread may break when used with a crochet hook, or it may easily fall apart into fibers.
- If you want to straighten any curly or curly threads, you can do so by exposing the thread to steam, then picking it up with your fingers and stroking it in a pulling motion. Try using the same method when trimming spread thread bundles such as tassels.
- Iron at low temperature with a cloth.

Story/
The rarity value of wild silk It has become more expensive year by year , and the yarn suppliers used by Hue Rain no longer carry it. I searched all over the place for thread, but I couldn't find one with the desired thinness, number of twists, and texture. Meanwhile, I consulted with the representative of a silk refining company in Kyoto, and after hearing about his passion and the current state of decline in the silk industry, he showed me the path to producing wild silk thread, and I was moved to start making thread. I took a step. After overcoming difficulties, the original yarn was completed. Although it is not an easy thread to work with, it is interesting as if it were related to living things. Please come and experience this rare and beautiful wild silk.
