Hue Rain's original wild silk (wild silkworm, tussah silkworm, tussah silk) yarn. It is a rare and valuable material taken from the cocoons of wild silkworms that live in the wild. The lustrous prism structure of the fibers is beautiful, and as a Hue Rain original, the yarn is twisted a small number of times to bring out the maximum natural beauty. Color variations are ecru, indigo, and silver gray.

What is Wild Silk?

- These are wild silkworm species that grow in the wild, not domesticated silkworms that are cultivated indoors.
Compared to domesticated silk, it has superior antibacterial and antioxidant properties, UV protection, strength, breathability, water absorption, water release, and heat retention.
- Compared to domesticated silk, the fibers are thicker and are not straight but wobbly.
- A natural yellowish off-white color.
-Silk thread is characterized by the luster created by prisms, but the luster is not as strong as that of domesticated silkworms and is more subdued.
- The simplicity and warmth of hand-spun yarn, with a crisp, firm feel somewhat similar to linen thread.
-The unevenness that is unique to natural fibers is attractive.
- It has both kindness and strength.

Features of Hue Rain Wild Silk Yarn

- In order to retain the unique characteristics of the fiber, it is finished with fewer twists.
35/6 sweet yarn (approximately 157 denier)
- Although the thread is thin, the fibers are strong, making it easy to maintain the shape of your creation.
・The off-white color is uncolored.
- Indigo/silver grey. Chemically dyed.
- Indigo/silver grey is slightly softer than off-white due to the dyeing process.
- The skein has a natural wobble. The cone winding process creates tension, so the thread is straighter than the skein.

Usage

-It can be used for a wide range of purposes, including knitting, embroidery, sewing, tatting lace, dyeing, thread mandalas, nyanduti, weaving, etc.
- The cone roll can also be used conveniently for two or three rolls.
- The disadvantage of having fewer twists is that the yarn can easily split when used with a crochet hook, or fall apart into fibers.
- If you want to straighten out any bent or frizzy threads, steam the thread, then pinch it with your fingers and rub it gently, pulling it straight. You can also use the same method to straighten out splayed bundles of threads, such as tassels.
- Iron at low temperature using a cloth.

Story/
Wild silk has become more and more rare every year , and the supplier of the thread used by Hue Rain no longer carries it. We searched everywhere for thread, but we couldn't find thread with the desired fineness, number of twists, or texture. In the midst of this, we consulted with the representative of a silk refining company in Kyoto, and after hearing his passion and the current state of the silk industry's decline, he showed us the way to manufacture wild silk thread. We were so inspired that we decided to start making thread. After overcoming difficulties, we completed our original thread. It's not an easy thread to handle, but it's interesting, like interacting with a living creature. We hope you'll try out this rare and beautiful wild silk.
